Birth flower

A flower traditionally associated with a calendar month, much like a birthstone; a cultural custom with no single official list.

Deadheading

Removing spent flowers from a plant, which for many species encourages further blooming.

Floriography

The language of flowers — the Victorian-era practice of coding symbolic meanings into blooms and bouquets.

Synodic month

One full cycle of moon phases, new moon to new moon, averaging about 29.5 days.

Waning

The half of the lunar cycle when the moon's illuminated portion is shrinking, from full moon back toward new.

Waxing

The half of the lunar cycle when the moon's illuminated portion is growing, from new moon toward full moon.
